From towering trees that reach for the sky to tiny microbes forging connections beneath the soil, nature is as complex as it is beautiful. In the “busy-ness” of our lives, it’s easy to forget that what we do alters the world around us. The power of individual action to influence collective well-being isn’t just an inspirational concept—it’s the natural order of things.

Today, up to 40% of the planet’s land is degraded, and we’ve lost nearly half of the six trillion trees that existed on Earth 12,000 years ago. From cleaning the air we breathe to filtering the water we drink and sheltering 80% of terrestrial biodiversity, the world’s forests aren’t just beautiful places to visit. Their survival is consequential for all of us—and the decisions we make today will shape the future of life on Earth.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
― Jane Goodall

Understanding this, the One Tree Planted team set intentions for how we would show up for nature during the month of April. Our team's Earth Month intentions included:

  • I pledge to keep fine tuning my garden setup in an effort to become more self-sufficient (and sustainable) —Meaghan
  • I pledge to research and support local organizations - specifically those working on protection of pollinator conservation areas in our town. —Reuben
  • I pledge to make my diet more sustainable by incorporating more plant based meals. —Anissa 🥑

So, what will your Earth Day intention be?

We invite you to set an Earth Day Intention in your own life. The best intentions are clearly stated, simple and actionable, yet will have a tangible impact. Need some inspiration? We've compiled a list of ideas to help you brainstorm!

I will stop consuming single-use plastics, by bringing reusable items with me when I leave the house.
I will walk, bike, or take public transit at least two days a week.
I will conduct a household waste audit and make changes to reduce overconsumption in my life.
I will reduce my foodprint by eating more plant-based meals each week.
I will be a more conscious consumer, supporting sustainable brands and purchasing secondhand items when available.
I will contribute to my own community by volunteering with a local environmental organization.
I will actively work toward making my workplace or school more sustainable.
I will plant a pollinator garden to support local biodiversity.
I will support an organization that is doing great work—such as planting trees, protecting wildlife, or conserving ecosystems.
I will waste less food by planning my meals and composting scraps.

Millions of people around the world are taking action for nature. From planting trees to improving daily habits, they’re making a difference in ways big and small. You don’t need a million dollars or a brilliant idea to be a steward of our planet. Change begins with people who care—and every action matters. By stepping up for nature, you join a global movement that is healing the Earth. It’s time to stop waiting for others to act, because nature needs us now.
